We are always keen to invite new members into the club so, if you are looking for a new challenge, are new to Edinburgh, or looking to get back in a boat again, we would love to hear from you.

The men's squad comprises rowers of all levels and abilities: from complete beginners to the very experienced. Currently, we have an active novice squad made up of guys who have little or no previous experience. We also have many more experienced rowers who have either progressed from the novice squad or who have rowed previously at school and/or university.

We row on a short stretch of the Union Canal (1600m) on the west side of Edinburgh, not far from the city centre. Although the canal is fairly narrow this does have its advantages: it allows coaches to get closer to the rowers and provide real-time feedback. The canal also allows us to train on the water at night, giving us additional water time on weeknights throughout the winter.

At weekends we have regular training sessions on a section of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Auchinstarry. This gives us an opportunity for side-by-side training and race preparation.

We are currently developing a new training plan to provide a structured approach with regular tests to measure progress. This will include a squad water session one night a week and another on the weekend, as well as gym sessions and other land training.

There are two main rowing seasons in Scotland. The head season which runs from the autumn to the spring focuses on longer distance time trial races while the Regatta season runs from late spring and into the summer and tends to be shorter distance side-by-side races.

During September to January (ice permitting), the Men's Squad will convene the following 'formal' training sessions:

To be agreed.

Novice Men
