Rowing For All

St Andrew Boat Club (SABC) is Scotland’s oldest open amateur rowing club, founded in Edinburgh on 24 April 1846. It is also the sixth oldest in the United Kingdom. Today, the club is based at Meggetland, just west of Edinburgh city centre, with members training primarily on a 1500m stretch of the Union Canal.

We offer a supportive and inclusive environment for rowers and scullers of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to international athletes. Whether you’re looking to row for fitness, recreation, or competition, SABC provides the coaching, facilities, and community to help you thrive.

International Level

St Andrew Boat Club has a proud history of producing international-calibre athletes. Club members have represented Scotland and Great Britain at major competitions including the 1958 Empire Games, and the 1986 and 1994 Commonwealth Regattas.

In recent years, the club’s competitive programme has gone from strength to strength, with several athletes reaching the highest levels of the sport — including Olympians such as Dame Katherine Grainger and Sinead Jennings Lynch. SABC continues to develop and support rowers who go on to represent Scotland and Team GB on the world stage.
