This autumn, St Andrew Boat Club will begin preparations for the development of a flagship new boathouse on our current site on the Union Canal in Edinburgh. Our boathouse has stood on its current site since 1983, when we operated with a much smaller membership, and it is no longer fit for purpose in delivering our aims of Rowing for All in our local community. A new boathouse will be constructed on land leased from the City of Edinburgh Council on the same plot, and will provide space for boats and equipment sufficient to accommodate our expanding membership, as well as a much-needed area for land-based training. Planning permission and a lease have been secured, and construction is due to commence in winter 2020.

The new facility will allow us to nurture talent across all age categories while continuing a heritage of race training to compete in the sport nationwide. The increased space will allow us to open up more opportunities to people in our community who would not otherwise have access to the sport through indoor training equipment and a larger fleet of boats suited to all ages and abilities.

The club requires to fundraise a significant amount to meet the costs of the new development. Through the generosity of a local charitable trust, every £1 raised will be matched by a further £2, so every donation can go even further.
